{maximizing your wardrobe}

One of my favorite things to do is mix and match my wardrobe. If you can't wear something more than one way then it's not worth purchasing... I think that goes without saying haha. I leave for Thanksgiving with Kyle's family in OBX next week and have already been plotting about what to pack. It's been gorgeous here in Key West (low 70s) so I can wear a light sweater but I'm anticipating layers and booties which is making me feel very festive! Packing has always been hard for me (things everyone says) because I want to bring everything with me but keeping a suitcase under 50 lbs is torture. So I thought it would be fun to share a couple of wardrobe staples and style them with some new Loft pieces I ordered - styling them in multiple ways!

I don't want you to view this blog post as "buy this" or "you need this" - instead, I want you to view it as an inspiration. I wanted to show how adding a poncho or changing your shoes can create a new outfit and dress it up or down!

All it takes is 8 pieces to create 15 looks:

Some basics... black pants, blue jeans, white sweater, and a black shirt! Plus two pairs of shoes

Some fun tops... maroon blouse and grey layered top!

Then top it all off with some cute ponchos... one grey and one olive green!

Adding a poncho on top or switching out your shoes is one of the easiest ways to transform an outfit! The best trick in the book ;) you can wear the same shoes and pants and nobody will know hehe. Plus, this is a great way to add some warmth if you aren't a lover of big scarves (that can sometimes get in the way of eating). It's also amazing to me that changing out of blue jeans and putting on black pants can elevate your look in a snap. I only wore two pairs of shoes for these outfits but adding heels to any of these outfits can work. Nude, leopard, black, OTK boots!

Which outfit is your favorite? I hope this was helpful and gave you some ideas to shop your closet a bit this holiday season :)

{casual chic holiday party look}

An easy holiday look is as simple as a great pair of heels and a bright red lip!

Photography by Katie

With all of the holiday parties coming up it can be stressful to pull together a new outfit and feel like you have to purchase something new. Sometimes it's best to go with a classic look and add in a subtle bit of red or green and top it off with a bold lip! I love pairing heels with a great pair of blue jeans and a crisp white shirt - it's basically fool proof. The tie on this shirt gives it a fun detail and helps give you some shape while still leaving room for the dessert table. The accessory I never leave home without is always my cashmere scarf... because this shirt is thinner, throwing a scarf over my shoulders like a shawl helps add some warmth (and then when the party heats up you aren't going to be having a heat stroke in a tacky sweater because the shirt is breathable hah)!

I purchased this NARS lip color in "heat wave" years ago and it consistently remains a holiday favorite. It's matte so it doesn't budge and genuinely lasts for hours. Somehow the color works on so many skin types and it makes your teeth look whiter! I can't recommend it enough!

And because this photoshoot was SO windy I figured y'all deserved the outtakes haha - Katie and I had to be pretty patient with the wind and waiting for people to get out of the background. The things you do to get the shot! I've always wanted to shoot at The Line Hotel in DC and it didn't disappoint!

What's your go-to holiday look?

{red tuckernuck scarf}

A red silk scarf paired with the coziest sweater ever = match made in heaven!

How is everyone's week going after Thanksgiving? I feel like the week after having a couple of days off is always difficult. A full 5-day work week can just wear you out sometimes! I hope that's not just me?! I had a rough start to the week - I wasn't sleeping well and I hadn't heard from Kyle in a couple of days. He's out on patrol right now so our communication is limited to email. I think it's been a little bit harder for me this time because of the holiday season! I love doing all things festive and walking around to see the lights and decorations like we did last year together :) But, I just keep reminding myself that he'll be back by Christmas Eve!

Okay so now let's chat about this look...

I fell in love with this scarf in the summer and knew I needed one in seasonal colors too! It's so well made and the fabric is silky soft like butter. The fabric is lightweight (so you could wear it in the summer) but if you wrap it around your shoulders it can still keep a lot of warmth in! It's the perfect accessory to any casual or dressy look. The colors are so rich and vibrant that it can truly become the statement of an outfit. I love wearing it right now because it gives a bit of subtle Christmas cheer without being over the top!

Y'all have heard me rave about this sweater for weeks now... I know I've shared it on Instagram multiple times :) the chenille fabric is so soft (that's kind of the theme of this outfit hehe) and I like the boxy oversized fit of the sweater. I tucked it in in the front to give my waist some shape and character to the outfit. Paired with jeans and my OTK boots it's a grab and go outfit that makes you look very put together.

This scarf OR sweater would be the BEST Christmas gifts for anyone on your list!! My mom approves of the scarf (she bought a couple for friends) and my grandma bought the sweater with me ;) all ages approved!

{olive tie-waist amazon dress}

I have never loved a dress from Amazon more than this one... it's perfect to wear to work, perfect for a date night, and the price is absolutely INSANE ($18)!!!

Photos by Katie Urban

The cute little tie detail on this dress is not only adorable but it helps nip you in at the waist and hides any kind of food baby you may have. Did I just start a blog post off like that? Yes. Because let's get real... that's what we ALL want in an outfit. To feel skinny but still be able to eat. This does both with a price tag that you almost can't believe. The fabric is nice and thick to keep you warm in the cold but you're not going to be sweating at your desk once you sit down. The olive green color is my absolute favorite to wear during the holidays. It's festive without being in your face "omg holidays" if you know what I mean.

I'm wearing a size medium (I'm 5'-6" for reference and a size 2). After reading the measurements I wanted to make sure that the sleeves went all the way to my wrists and that it was long enough to be work appropriate. Normally, a medium would be too big around my waist but because of the cute tie I was able to make it fit me perfectly! It steams easily (always a plus) and didn't wrinkle a lot after a long day at work - which means it's good to go to dinner and drinks.

If y'all like me reviewing these Amazon finds please let me know! It's a lot of work searching through the trenches :)
