{september favorites + giveaway}

I can't believe September is about to be over! This month totally flew by… I tried a lot of new things and fell in love with some tried and true items! Did you have anything that became a staple this month?
Psst… keep reading to enter an awesome GIVEAWAY!

Leopard Flats // I know I preach about wearing leopard way too much but breaking out my leopard flats for commuting to work was the perfect way to get me excited about a transitioning wardrobe. I can get tired of wearing the same shoes over and over (commuter problems) but with these I never do.

Moon & Lola Ring // I received this in my Rocksbox and have worn it every day since! I love to layer simple rings and stack silver and gold bands together. This ring is the perfect addition with a bit of sparkle.

Sephora Sleep Mask // I'm a sucker for a good mask… the price tag and the different kinds sold me instantly. I love the pearl, green tea and lotus ones! (They are also so much fun to throw in gifts for people - who doesn't love trying new products that make you feel great?!)

Ban.do Portable Charger // After attending the Landmark Festival in DC this past weekend I have fallen in love with my portable charger… again!!! Seriously, if you need one thing for when you travel or are out at night it's this little baby. I'm on snapchat (jennrog3) all the time and am constantly having cell service problems. That combo is lethal for my phone dying quickly. I've even lent it out to friends for a quick boost so they can catch an uber home!

S'Well Water Bottle // Amazed. Obsessed. Unreal. I won this in a selfie contest at work (yes, seriously) and was amazed that it actually keeps liquids cold for 24 hours and warm for 12. Waking up at 4am after a long day of drinking only to discover you have ice water by your bed? Pure hangover bliss.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day // My hairdresser used to use this product all the time and I believed it was the reason my hair looked so perfect after a fresh cut and blowout. Spoiler alert: it's never as perfect but it makes my strands feel incredible and I know it's protecting against heat and humidity!

Aerie Lace Bralette // Girls - big or small you'll love these bralettes. Just ask all of my roomies. For those days when you come home and can't simply take off your bra for the night… this is your solution. (Plus, I adore a little lace sticking out under a v-neck tee.)

Rebecca Minkoff Fringe Clutch (gold, large) // My only impulse buy of September. It was 50% off. It was so worth it. I want to take it everywhere.

{blankets and booties}

Fall means two things to me: colorful blanket scarves and leather or suede booties. They're perfect for sunshine, temps in the 60s and a crisp breeze in the air. I can already imagine combining some of these for a winery weekend or tailgating for a football game! Bring on the blankets and booties!!!

{white jeans in fall}

Yes, you can wear white after Labor Day - I've always broken this rule and I don't see why not!

Photography by Emily Smalling

My trick to wearing white in the cooler months? Pair it with rich colors and seasonal shoes. Keep a balance with how much white/skin you're showing - I loved the length of this shirt and the longer sleeves so that it was obvious I knew it wasn't summer anymore ;)  The color reminds me of changing leaves in the Fall. Peep-toe booties are also great for September and October when you know your toes won't be frozen. I'm not quite ready to put away a bright red pedicure or break out the closed toe heels! It's all about transitional pieces… this is such a weird time when it's chilly in the morning and then warm when you leave work. If I'm still sitting outside and taking off a jacket or sweater then you better believe I'm still wearing my white pants!

How do y'all feel about white pants after Labor Day? When do you finally put them on the highest shelf until next spring?

{glo minerals}

A couple of months ago I was introduced to a new brand called Glo Minerals - I have been testing out their products for awhile and I'm totally hooked! All of the products are non-comedogenic, have UV protection, are offered in a wide variety of colors and pigments (that means a match for every skin color), and are gentle enough for the someone with super sensitive skin. The makeup lasted all day and the cleanser and lotion left my skin feeling light and clean before getting in bed at night.

 Naturally, the lipsticks were my favorite!! I sampled four matte lipsticks [crush, sorbet, bombshell and demure] and two cream lipsticks [bloom and heirloom]. The matte lipsticks really lasted all day - even through morning tea and lunch! The colors are packed with pigment so you only need a small swipe across your lips to make them pop!

I haven't strayed from my everyday blush and eyeshadow in awhile. I'm pretty straightforward when it comes to these two beauty products. Natural eyeshadow and a rose colored blush. The blush was really light and pretty (as it should be haha) and I could easily control how much I put on. I actually began putting this in my clutch when I would go out at night because I could put a little powder on my finger and blend it in for touch-ups.

 A natural eye palette is always a must for me. I don't do crazy colors or anything wacky. Mainly because I like to make my lashes look as long as possible. With these simple 4 colors I could create a simple daytime look and then amp it up with the darkest color for a night out. The lightest color was perfect to apply at my tear ducts - a trick I use to make my eyes pop a bit :)

The last glo products I tried out were the Gentle Cream Cleanser and the Balancing Moisture Remedy. Both of these were for sensitive skin so after spending a day in the sun it was wonderful to have a face wash without any type of texture. I don't like scents in my face lotion so I wasn't too wild about the moisturizer - however, I gave it a shot and really grew to like it. It has a fresh, flowery smell without being too overpowering and it left my skin really soft and smooth.

{working out with dove dry spray}

Photography by Emily Smalling

Dove Dry Spray ℅ ($5 - $6)// Old Navy Leggings, similar, and top, favorite // My Kind of Lovely Tote ℅ // Nike Tennis Shoes, similar grey but with turquoise

With summer coming to close I'm attempting to not let myself stop staying active… it's beyond tempting for me to just go home and curl up on my sofa with a good book and a glass of wine. With the nights getting darker earlier (ughhh) I made myself join a gym so that I have to workout before I get home. I know, I shocked myself too. This means I have to pack my bag the night before so that my workout clothes are ready to head out the door when I am the next day. Something always gets forgotten… water bottle? Okay, I can grab one from work. Sports bra? No biggie they're built in to tops anyways. Yoga mat? Every gym has a spare. Deodorant? Ummm nope.

When I leave the house in the morning I want to make sure that I smell good all day - through my morning commute all the way to the end of a gym class. My answer? Dove Dry Sprays by Unilever from Walmart. I talked about my new found love for this product on snap chat last week but I love it even more today. After testing this product out for a couple of weeks now it's safe to say it has my stamp of approval. Not only does it go on dry, work for 48 hours, smell fantastic, and NOT leave white marks but it really works - I'm talking stressed out in a work meeting while you're wearing a navy blue silk blouse and nobody can see you sweating works!!

Take my word on this one. Pick one up for you and for your guy. There are lots of different scents to choose from! Let me know what y'all think!

{simple grey tee}

Photography by Kristyn

Aerie V-neck Best T ℅ // Old Navy White Jeans // Baublebar Necklace // J.Crew Chambray Shirt // Tory Burch Miller Sandals // Kate Spade Purse, old (similar)

Sometimes all you need to create an easy outfit for bowling with girlfriends is an easy tee. The rest just falls into place… A little sparkle, white pants and a chambray to throw on in case you get cold. This t-shirt has been worn on a daily basis - it's that soft. At first I thought this was just going to be a throw on and lounge shirt but it's so comfortable and I love the length that I've worn it to work under a blazer and  out to drinks with jeans and heels! It was perfect to throw on to chat with some ladies while bowling at Pinstripes (all you DC people have got to go check them out - nicest bowling lanes I've ever been to!). This will not be the last time you see this shirt so I suggest you take advantage of the buy one get one 50% off deal they have going on right now!

PS. yes, technically I shot this look before Labor Day but no, I will not be putting my white jeans away. Rules were meant to be broken ;)

{beauty | dry shampoo}

Batiste ($6) // Bumble and Bumble ($27) // drybar Detox ($22) //
Moroccan Oil ($26) // Fekkai Blowout ($10)

I have tried so many dry shampoos I can hardly count them. I have really thin hair so it gets oily really quickly. Growing up I would have field hockey every night and then I'd rush off to ballet class. This got me in the habit of showering every night (naturally). Even after graduating and not working out every day I still showered every morning - this meant I also used a crazy amount of hot tools on my locks. Now that I know proper hair health I try to wash my hair at least every other day. The trick? Dry Shampoo. You name it - I've tried it. It's kind of an obsession haha I just love to try them all! I've narrowed it down to my top 5 favorites. Different prices but they all have a couple of things in common: they leave your hair feeling fresh, smelling great, and full of volume!

My secret - I always use dry shampoo the night before I'm not going to wash my hair. This way the powder gets worked in from my roots (source of the oil) to the tips of my hair. Most dry shampoos have a white residue (old school way is baby powder) that you have to work in with a brush or fingers - by sleeping with it in it absorbs all of the oils and disperses it through the strands! If I need more volume I flip my head upside down and blast it with a blow dryer quickly.

Batiste // Easily my top choice. You can grab this cheap fix at any drug store (or Urban Outfitters actually) and it comes in lots of different scents.

Bumble and Bumble // I just used this a couple of weekends ago from a friend when I had forgotten my dry shampoo. It wasn't a mist put instead a powder you shook out. The price is high but a little went a long way - I was really surprised!

dry bar // I love this one mainly because of the smell. It's also great if you want to re-curl your hair because it really feels weightless.

Moroccan Oil // How can you go wrong with a company that really knows hair? This one is great for blondes and brunettes (aka no white residue) because of the coloring. Perfect for quick sprays in the morning if you wake up and are short on time.

Fekkai // This first dry shampoo I found that worked for me. I got a trial size in my Birchbox and was hooked on how great it smelled. Use this one sparingly because it can weigh your hair down a bit.

Do you have any dry shampoos you love? Please let me know - I'd lot to try them out :)

{falling for fall}

This past weekend we finally had some cooler weather and rain all Saturday. I didn't mind because it was the perfect background for a quiet weekend staying in and getting lots of cleaning and work done!

Photography by Rachel Brennan

Olive Shirt // Striped Skirt, old (similar, similar fit) // Leopard Heels, old (similar) // Moon & Lola pave Ring // Slate Geometric Ring via Rocksbox (first month free with JENNIFERXOXO1) // Gigi New York Clutch // GloMinerals Lipstick in "sorbet"

I mentioned two weeks ago that olive, stripes and leopard were on my fall wish list - so I paired them together to create the perfect fall outfit… that can still work with DC humidity and heat (because I know it'll be back this week. Ooph!) There is no trick to pairing leopard and stripes together. You can have a big stripe with a small leopard or a small stripe with a big leopard :) Match made in heaven!
