{emerald}

Emerald. Oh how I love this color… It makes a statement with it's gorgeous undertones and it helps create the perfect background for a smattering of gold chains. Perfect with a red lip too, yes?

Sometimes, an outfit is just meant to go together. A gorgeous (and comfy) emerald sweater, leopard print heels, washed jeans (that never stretch out), and the most amazing statement necklace. Perfection. I like to call this my "Mr. T chains" necklace because it packs a wallop. It makes a statement and it makes it loud!
What do y'all think? How would you style this necklace?

PS. You may recognize this necklace from here and this sweater from here. Don't you love a piece of jewelry and clothing that can be worn so many different ways!?

PPS. Happy last day of September. WHERE has the year gone?!?

{HOKIES}

The second I see anything maroon and orange… I buy it. Case in point: this scarf!

I pinned this scarf on Pinterest one morning and buy the end of the day it was already purchased and headed my way! Didn't hurt that I also got it 20% off and with free 2-day shipping (score)! Right in time for the Virginia Tech game last weekend… except then it was sweltering hot. Ugh.
This look is definitely more cool-weather inspired with my new Sam Edelman boots. No more Target knock-offs for me (although I loved them dearly and to their imminent death). Aren't they just stunning?! I got them during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this summer. Yep, I saved up to buy fall boots in the summer. I thought it was pretty smart :)

To pull the look together I added my Gigi New York crossbody bag. I'm in love. I don't know how I've gone this long without a smart looking crossbody purse that also doubles as a clutch when you remove the strap! The gold monogram is such a sweet touch and I love how the front zipper pocket is the perfect size for my phone (and tickets to the game)! The inside is even leather, SWOON! You're going to be seeing a lot of it!!

On a trendier note: this ring to wrist bracelet is never coming off. It's such a simple design that I adore. PSSST: use code FALLLAYERS to get 25% off!

Wish I was going to the Homecoming Game this weekend!!
LET'S GO… HOKIES!

Love Always,
Jennifer

{sweater weather}

If you're going to spend a decent amount of money on a sweater you might as well be able to wear it more than once. The second I consider spending more than $50 on any item (yes, that low) I begin brainstorming how to dress it up or down. My coworker wore a red sweater yesterday and I was reminded how great red looks in the colder months. A good ole punch in that dreary sky's face ;)

Sometimes the styling difference is just Night and Day!

{h&m basic stripes}

Stripes + oxblood + turquoise.
I'd say it's a pretty darn good way to wear basic stripes!

photography by Emily Smalling

H&M "Basic" Shirt // Target Pants, old (similar) // Francesca's Necklace, not online (even better option!, also love) // Tory Burch Reva Flats // Tory Burch Earrings // MAC Lipstick in "See Sheer"

I picked this shirt up from H&M on a whim because my train was delayed, I was bored, and it was supposed to rain that weekend when all I had packed were tank tops. Best decision I've ever made. Their tops, in particular from the "basic collection," are always so versatile and well made. They're simple cotton (normally) but they always hold up through many washes and outfits! I'm honestly surprised I haven't put it on Instagram before because I've worn it multiple times. It's that comfortable. Plus the cut is extremely forgiving even with horizontal stripes.
This turquoise necklace was a second impulse buy at Francesca's while waiting for that same train… Y'all already know my stance on turquoise: wear it with everything and whenever possible. It makes everything look better ;) If you're following me on Instagram then you might remember it from this post. I am never shy to repeat an outfit or jewelry (because what would the point in that be?!).

Side Note: THIS. VIEW. Emily found this little hidden gem in Rosslyn! She probably got really annoyed that I didn't face her because I will never get tired of staring at DC and the Washington Monument :)

Thanks for reading, friends!

{fall essentials part 2}

Happy Tuesday, friends! Part 2 of my fall essentials is more of a "luxe list" (did you catch part 1?). These items can pull a look together or stand front and center. Rich textures are what make these items unique. They aren't the cheapest items but they are ones that you will wear year after year and will carry you into winter. Definite investments!!

I was given this cashmere scarf last year in camel and I swear I wore it almost every single day. It's so wide that you can wrap it around your shoulders or bundle it up over your nose and ears.
I invested in a good faux fur vest in the beginning of summer last year. Get yours ASAP!! I seriously wore it all the time and they sell out really quickly! Nordstrom and H&M have cheap versions (that actually look good) but you want to make sure you aren't wearing a tacky throw rug… faux doesn't always look the best (even though it's necessary) so make sure the one you purchase looks smooth and clean or has a purposeful pattern to it.
OTK boots and double pearl earrings. Super trendy and I'm super obsessed. I wore these yesterday :) These boots held up through snow and rain last year for me. They still look brand new!

What's on your Fall Luxe List?

{buffalo check}

Yesterday was a travel day for me. Sitting on a train for 4+ hours meant I needed two things: comfort and my laptop.

photography by Emily Smalling

Lipstick in "Dolce Vita"

Buffalo check is big this season and this one is the best! This shirt is comfortable in almost every way possible. It's a boyfriend fit and is the softest flannel. You may remember me dressing it up here.
Having my laptop with me on the train meant I needed to find a way to carry it there. Enter this Just Fab bag! Oh boy am I in love. It was roomy enough for my laptop, planner, notebooks, umbrella and some clementines (channeling Eva Chen here y'all). Plus, it's in this gorgeous emerald green color. The shoulder strap is removable but it made carrying this large bag so much easier.
Bonus: there's a pouch on the side that can zip across the top of the bag to protect your belongings!

I had a wonderful weekend but holy moley did it fly by!! I feel like I was just leaving work to go and catch my train :( It was a short but sweet trip to see the boy. I'm extremely sad my Hokies lost too but it was wonderful to catch up with old friends. Hope everyone had a great weekend and are feeling ready to tackle a new week. (I'm hoping writing that will convince me that I am… because I most certainly am NOT ready!)

So this picture needs some explaining… I work for an Architecture firm in the
World Wildlife Fund building. I guess this stuffed Bison was there for some
educational purpose? Well, we sure got a surprise when we walked around the
corner of the back hallway to our office! Let's just say everyone was utilizing
their selfie skills that afternoon!!

Lipstick (Unapologetic) // Necklace // Pants

Happy Friday, friends! I hope you have a fun weekend planned… I'm heading to Roanoke this weekend to visit the boy! We're then going to head down to Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech game on Saturday. FINALLY!! I've been ready to go to a game all season :) I only get to see my boyfriend once a month so we always have a lot of fun when we're finally reunited! Can't wait to be reunited with everyone at VT too. I've got some long train rides ahead of me but I can't wait!

Hope everyone gets to spend their weekend with friends and family having a relaxing night in or going out causing trouble ;) and of course watching your favorite team WIN! (except if you went to Georgia Tech… sorry but I'm hoping y'all lose hehe).
