{soft spring colors}

Photography by Emily Smalling

The title of this post is a bit confusing... but hear me out! I wore this look (with tights) during NYFW and it was one of my favorite outfits. I loved the mock turtleneck and the way my OTK boots looked with it. Because the dress was such a soft color I didn't want a black jacket to totally over power it. So, I paired it with a white coat. I love how the color of this dress really grabs your attention and makes it the focal point. It's so unexpected! Surprisingly, this color doesn't wash me out at all - and obviously, ya girl JRog, needs a tan. ASAP! It was freeeeezing last weekend. My toes were not happy that they were out to play even though I had a pedicure. I found myself wishing my bare legs were wrapped up in these boots hiding my goosebumps :/ I broke this look out again because it shows that you can still wear spring colors while staying warm. There's no shame in wearing black boots in March y'all... I don't live in sunny Florida so if it's cold I'm gonna wear boots!! ;)

Happy Wednesday - counting down to the weekend!

{spring to-do list}

I'm so ready to break out my sandals and begin creating new memories this year! Spring is my favorite season so I've started a list of things I want to do :) some old and some new. I have some weddings this season that will create the perfect opportunity to get me out of DC and exploring new things. Anything you want to cross off your list this year? My list is slightly ambitious so it may extend into summer hehe.

1 // Grow an herb garden - mint, basil, rosemary, etc! [Completed and growing perfectly!!]

2 // Go hiking with friends

3 // Explore Union Market (hard to believe I've never done this before...)

4 // Plan a weekend trip away [Trip to Key West - check! A bit more than a weekend too ;)]

5 // Visit the Cherry Blossom Festival - despite the tourists

6 // Picnic in the park

7 // Purge my closet - everything that doesn't sell will be donated! [SEVEN trash bags full of winter/spring/summer clothes was taken to Goodwill!! YES!]

8 // Saturday Farmer's Market

9 // Try a new barbecue recipe [Rosemary marinated chicken... putting those herbs to use!]

10 // Learn to play golf (I swear I say this every year)

11 // Discover a new part of the city [Kalorama - where Obama will be living soon]

12 // Finally eat at Rose's Luxury

13 // Pick fresh flowers [One little flower for my desk...]

14 // Plan a date with a friend I haven't seen in awhile [Red wine with a high school friend!]

15 // Make a pitcher of sangria (one that I've never made before!)

16 // Volunteer my time

17 // Take a trip to Chicago to visit my sister!

18 // Tour the monuments on foot (my favorite activity on a Saturday)

19 // Rent a kayak in Georgetown

20 // Go to an outdoor concert

{Maggy London easter dress}

Photography by Emily Smalling

Maggy London Dress (runs small - I'm wearing a 6) c/o // Steve Madden Heels // Turkish Towel (worn as scarf, similar) // Kate Spade Clutch, old // Vanessa Mooney Earrings //
Perry Street ring via Rocksbox (first month free with "jenniferxoxo1") [similar ring here] //
Lancome Lipstick in " // Kendra Scott Bracelet c/o // Essie Nail Polish in "fiji"

With Easter being next weekend (wow, time flies) I couldn't help but gravitate towards white when picking out a dress to wear to church. I love to begin bringing pastels and softer colors into my wardrobe as spring approaches. Even though last weekend technically marked the first days of spring it was cold and rainy... some parts of VA even had snow! I didn't want to wear a jacket (even though this one would be perfect) so I chose to take a thicker scarf and wrap it over my shoulders. I tend to do this a lot during the warmer months aka I'm always hot so I like to go sleeveless and then when I'm cold - I'm freezing ;) This monogrammed turkish towel is really old and I think they're used for beach blankets that are lightweight but I liked giving it another use. Plus, it's too pretty to put on the ground!

Do you have an Easter dress yet? Any traditions? I'm really bummed because this is the first year I won't be with my parents :( my mom will be in CA and my dad will just be getting back from visiting my sister in Chicago. Perhaps it's best since I'll be studying... last weekend until the exam!

{turquoise city coat}

Photography by Emily Smalling

With cold fronts coming in sporadically this month I've been keeping this J.Crew coat nearby. The color is perfect for spring and it's just light enough to keep me warm but not too hot! I couldn't help but recreate an all black look from NYFW because I love how the turquoise stands out. Plus, this long black sweater is fun pushed off the shoulder a bit... but I'm ready for full-on off the shoulder shirts!

{living threads co}

Photography by Emily Smalling

With Spring finally right around the corner I can't help but get excited for brunches, fresh flowers, spring colors, and being with my girlfriends.  All I want to do is gossip over mimosas and spend the day with friends... especially since I'm still stuffed up in my house studying for my certification exam (when will it be over?!)  One thing I love to do (even though it's rare) is entertain. I love having a reason to clean the house and lay out a fancy spread - whether it's a wine and cheese night, homemade dinner with my roomies, or brunch for some gals. Fun fact: you don't have to spend a ton of money to make your spread look fancy. Mix up patterns and plates, create height by putting some plates on shot glasses (just use 3 so it doesn't get knocked over), add in fruit to allow people to create the perfect drink and top it off with fresh flowers because they always make a table look finished!

With all of the gorgeous fabrics from Living Threads Co. I had a difficult time picking one color. Since it was such a gorgeous day outside I decided to layer them all together... I guess you could say I was inspired by the season? It was a nice break from studying and we had a special visitor coming that morning ;) My roommate got a French Bulldog puppy so I knew we would have people coming through the house that would nibble on everything.

I want to take a second to chat about this company... One thing I love about blogging is bringing y'all fun outfits and introducing you to new ideas and companies. I have a particular soft spot for women founded small businesses and when I read about Living Threads I fell in love. Their mission is to do good through small business, supporting artisans while directly connecting consumers with the women and men who weave the products. Amanda, the founder, is so passionate about developing relationships with these amazing people that she couldn't even be at our shoot because she was traveling to Nepal to make new connections! The company helps train weavers (currently in Nicaragua and Guatemala) and then allows them to empower themselves by creating a reliable source of income with skills to provide for their families. 10% of the profit through sales is donated to the artisans through their micro-credit and training programs. Read more about it here.
