{change it up}

One necklace. Three ways.
So I can wear my all black and still feel like I'm changing things up ;)

SheInside Top ($18) // Rock & Republic Jeans // Leopard Heels (similar) // Stella & Dot Necklace // NARS Lipstick in "Heat Wave"

I wore this outfit the other weekend to go out with my girlfriends and we ended up dancing the whole night. I love these pants more and more every time I wear them because they are sooo stretchy so I can shake it all night long. I also loved spinning around because of the way this top flares out - super modern but still a little girly ;)

How awesome is this necklace?! I love that it's 3 (probably even more) styles in one. It comes with these little hook chains that allow you to change the length. You can easily clip and un-clip the chains to create the perfect "blinged out" or subtle look. Loving this one with mixed metals!

{maroon lips and scallops}

Matching lips and scallops make me a happy girl!

photography by Emily Smalling

H&M Skirt, old (similar scallops) // Old Navy Turtleneck (on sale for $19) // DSW Impo Booties (most recent version) // Kendra Scott Earrings (recommend these too!) // Revlon Lipstick in "Raisin Rage"

A good work skirt is always a bonus in my book. I love this skirt because it has a great length for work and it's a color that works in all seasons (last seen in the fall here). The trick with wearing a massive turtleneck is balancing it out on bottom. In a couple of these photos I feel like this sweater is eating me… actually, Emily and I took a couple of photos where we literally looked at each other and said: "oh no". Hey, even fashion bloggers don't photograph well sometimes! But I loved how this look came together and was seriously comfortable. (Yes, I've actually worn this look to work and variations of it multiple times!) Anyways, big and chunky up top, refined and fitted on the bottom. These heeled booties are a go-to in the office setting. It's a great way to wear a heel so you get some height and sophistication while still keeping it super comfortable - I could actually run in these babies. Of course, I topped the look off with matching lipstick and turquoise earrings. I don't know how often I preach about the power of lipstick but it is seriously a life saver… I constantly reach for it when I'm feeling yucky or less than put together. It just does the trick! Also - turquoise. Every dang time. It's just perfect!

PS. Has anyone else been feeling the winter blues recently?? Not only am I fighting a head cold but I've had a hard time feeling great about myself recently - I'm eating healthy and running a lot but nothing does the trick. Maybe I'm struggling with feeling inspired amidst this dreary weather or maybe it's my pale skin and the fact that I need a vacation? I just don't feel myself too much… help me get out of this funk!!

{five things | 1.27.15}

Five things that are currently making me happy…

1 // I was given a Voluspa candle over Christmas and have been obsessed with the perfect scent. I recently added another one to my collection… it is so me. Isn't it funny how a certain scent just reminds you of home? I can't put my finger on what exactly it reminds me of. It just instantly helps me relax! I'll probably go through this one in a couple of weeks.

2 // Corgis. If you think I'm obsessed with my dog, Kelty, then you know that the obsession extends to all things Corgi. His little fluff butt brightens my day and every time I see another Corgi I feel like I'm looking at my own puppy (okay, so he's 10 but still)! I just love everything about them!! Those little legs and big ears!! Gahh!! Fun fact: the Queen of England has Corgis… and my dad is Welsh… so that's why he said if we're getting a dog it has to be a Welsh Corgi ;)

3 // Graffiato Brunch. I recently went to brunch on Sunday (as you could probably tell by this photo) and had such a great time catching up with my girlfriends! One of them got engaged recently and has the most hilarious sense of humor… and the MOST gorgeous ring! She discovered a new way to photograph your ring AND meal at the same time. Pure Insta genius I'm telling ya ;) I loved hearing how she got engaged and all of the wedding planning that's started (or hasn't hehe). She's even planning on making her dress. Amazing! Nothing better than food and friends!
PS. if you go - those are the ribs pictured

4 // Joe Jonas posted this on Instagram the other week and I had to steal it. So much negativity flies around on that social media site that I love when I find little snippets of laughter. I'm telling ya… I laughed way too hard at this. Oops! Guinea pigs just crack me up.

5 // How to be the New Girl by Maxie McCoy. The College Prepster posted this only yesterday and it instantly resonated with me. I'm pretty good at meeting new people and putting myself out there but I've recently had some moments where I've gotten so insecure that I become myself's worst critic. To the point where I could back out of a situation I wasn't 100% confident in! Reading this yesterday was a nice little reminder that feeling like or being the new girl is okay and good for you - simply embrace it! Even the most confident girls need a little reminder every now and then that feeling uncomfortable is normal. If you're in a new place or at a new school you've got a great thing going!

Hope everyone is staying warm in this snow… if you're getting it!

{layers}

Recognize this cardigan? Yep I wore it on the blog last Monday!

photography by Emily Smalling

Old Navy Cardigan (love this too) // Striped Shirt // Francesca's Scarf, old (love to buy cheap scarves from F21 too!) // Old Navy Jeans // Sam Edelman Booties via Piperlime (25% off with code MUSTHAVE) // Philip Lim for Target Purse, old (buy on eBay) // Olive + Piper Earrings // NARS Lipstick in "Heat Wave"

I threw this outfit on last week and was instantly in love except I needed something else… so I put on this super old, bright colored scarf to pattern play a bit and loved how it brought life into the outfit! I'm a huge neutrals fan (duh, hi, welcome to my blog haha) and have been trying to hold true to my color promise! Okay, so normally that happens with a bright lipstick but that still counts. Right?

Some of my favorite ways to play up a simple outfit are with my shirt sleeves peeking out at the wrists and playing with patterns. Little details really pull an outfit together and make it more unique! Even when I feel basic ;)

{dreaming in lilly p}

Lilly Pulitzer makes me think of sunshine and summer. So when it's cold and rainy I love breaking out her pretty detailed tops and vibrant earrings.

photography by Emily Smalling

Lilly Pulitzer Etta Top, sold out (same style but in a pattern) // Lilly P Dew Drop Earrings, sold out (similar) // H&M Skirt // Sam Edelman Heels, old (similar, love) // Clare Vivier Foldover Clutch // NARS lipstick in "Heat Wave"

I got this top and pair of earrings during one of Lilly Pulitzer's sales a couple of weeks ago. We all know I'm a white top addict so of course I got this pretty Etta top - complete with embroidery and tassels. I linked the exact same style but in a pattern that is to die for above. I would totally pair that pattern with the earrings I linked as well!! Ugh I can practically feel the sunshine on my face!
