{striped dress in nantucket}

In September I had my first chance to visit Nantucket! It was such a gorgeous island - every corner was cuter than the next full of charm. I knew we were going to be going to dinner on the water one night so I went on the hunt for the perfect nautical dress. I wanted something that would keep me warm when the nights got chilly (long sleeves and heavy material) but still had some sass to it (deep v in the front and back). When I spotted this dress it checked all those boxes PLUS it has so much character to it with the tassel ties and the ruffle skirt.

I was at Shop Luna the weekend before looking for a rehearsal dinner dress (more on that later) when I spotted this striped beauty. I paired it with open toed heels but I think it would be adorable with tan boots and a maroon wrap. The material is so thick that it didn't wrinkle at all and i was comfortable the whole night (even with a sunburn I didn't get chilly haha).

Shop Luna is a boutique in Bethesda and they always have the best brands that you can find at Nordstrom and Revolve too. This brand, MISA Los Angeles, is new to me and I can't get enough of it! Adorable silhouettes, luxe colors, and perfect details.

{off the shoulder stripes with turquoise tassels}

Off The Shoulder Top // Elyse by Nicole Turquoise Tassels c/o // Old Navy Jeans // Platinum Jack Rogers // Scout Clutch (with an Inslee monogram) c/o // BITE Lipstick in "Pastille"

We have a heat wave hitting DC right now... I walked home from work at 8:00 last night and it was still 91 degrees! Phew! Maybe blue jeans aren't the best for this heat but this top is perfect! It's technically a crop top so I got a size large so that it would be a bit longer. I love the loose fit and the material breathes really well - it was hot when I shot these photos and it didn't show anything! I knew I had to pair this shirt with these shoulder grazing tassels. They're the perfect accessory to draw even more attention to your shoulders. Y'all know I love turquoise and these are no exception (I can never have too much). Can we talk about my clutch too?! I got it at a SCOUT event last month and Inslee was there making custom monograms *insert heart eye emoji* I absolutely adore her work!

How is everyone's week going? I have had an absolute insane two weeks at work so I haven't been able to keep up with my usual blog posts. I apologize for that! It seems the second I get a handle on things and get into a groove something else pops up. Perhaps I'll never be able to fully balance work, the blog, friendships, and my relationship... I'm not sure. It's frustrating to me that I can't do everything I want to do - I'm in trouble when I have to plan a wedding or when I have kids or when I get promoted again (PS none of those things are happening soon haha)! But, that seems to be how life is recently. I'm attempting to focus on the positive things and not stress out about the bad things. There's too much good in my life to allow the negative to take over.

So on that note: I'm going to go buy more peonies (if you follow me on IG you know I've got them at work and at home @jennrog) and rock some turquoise tassel earrings ;) thanks for reading!!

{tie one on}

Photography by Kristyn

Have you ever been walking through a store, looked at a mannequin and thought: wow, I could pull that off!? That was me last week at J.Crew. I saw a mannequin styled with a bandana tied around its neck and I was instantly drawn to it. Granted, the mannequin was wearing a $70 silk scarf with a gorgeous blazer and button down but that's beside the point... I figured I would try it out because it's not that different from throwing a scarf around your neck or wearing a statement necklace.

The verdict? Obsessed. I felt like a mixture between Parisian and cowboy. (That's an odd statement, I'm aware). I'm all about trying new trends and pushing the envelope. Looks like I need to find more ways to wear this cute $12 bandana! Any suggestions?

Also, I say it every year but I'll say it again. You CAN wear white after Labor Day. Rules were made to be broken. If I have one more silly boy tell me I can't wear white pants anymore I'm gonna flip ;) I wear white pants year round because I love them! You do you, girl!

{stripes + ripped denim}

Photography by Emily Smalling

Tobi Striped Top // DL1961 Ripped Denim c/o // Sam Edelman Pumps // Kendra Scott Necklace c/o // Ray-Ban Aviators // Kate Spade Clutch, old (similar) // NARS Lipstick in "heat wave"

Two of my favorite things - stripes and ripped jeans. I think I wear stripes at least twice a week! I love pairing them with bright colors, neutrals or a fun print. It's something that I constantly reach for to try and experiment with pattern mixing. I also love these ripped jeans... I wear them all the time because they never get baggy around the knees (haha duh).

Side note - I'm studying for (another) big exam so my posts are going to be a little bit fewer around here :) I'll still try to post at least two times a week and will be constantly posting on instagram so be sure to follow along!
