{at home}

At home and in my element. This might be my favorite #ootd post yet!

photography by Emily Smalling

Sweatshirt, old (love, love) // Old Navy Leggings (I rave about these - they aren't see through!) // Fuzzy socks, gifted from Christmas but you can find these everywhere :) // Cashmere Scarf // Gigglosophy Bracelet // Cat Mug

Kate Spade Planner // Kate Spade Phone Case, identical

My gallery wall is very personal to me… They're handmade paintings and photos from when I studied abroad. I laid out my photos so that there was an array of color and they were straight across the top and took up the width of my bed. I got my frames from Ikea (so cheap)!

Target Bedding // Nate Berkus Large Chevron Pillows
 All of my other pillows and my blanket are from Home Goods. I change my pillows out so much that this is the best place to find them for each season.

I thought this post would be a fun way for y'all to get a glimpse of the true me… I mean, all of my other posts are the true me but this one is a bit more personal! I know it's a tad bit long-winded but I thought it would be a great time to share some of the inner workings of the face behind Southern Anchors!

I mentioned earlier this week how cold it was when Emily and I met to shot last weekend… I wasn't joking around! It was so cold that we decided on an impromptu shoot inside :) There's a lot of planning and preparation that goes into blogging but I absolutely looove how these pictures turned out because it's my favorite place! My bedroom is my safe haven and office. I don't have a desk so all of my studying, blogging, and at-home work gets done on my bed.

[You can't see how tiny my room is but to give you an idea - Emily is standing in my bathroom to get these pictures haha eek!]

This is my typical lay-around-the-house outfit: leggings, fuzzy socks, a sweatshirt, and if I'm cold, which I was, my cashmere scarf that doubles as a blanket. I've been attempting to get my blog posts together and organized the week before they go up so my planner has been crucial in that! I'm also in the midst of studying for my Interior Design exams so that I can be a certified designer :) My weekends have recently consisted of staying in on Friday and studying, going out to brunch on Saturday before a night with friends, and then doing a photo shoot with Emily on Sunday and blogging/studying the rest of the day. I need to get back to hot yoga on Sundays too! I rarely have any free time after work during the week so I try not to work too hard on the weekend… Not that exciting but hey, I think I've got a good thing going!

I've never talked in depth about my job before but I went to Virginia Tech for Interior Design in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies aka Interior Architecture. I use that term because I am NOT a decorator… I don't hang curtains and fluff pillows. I can do that, but that's not what I got my degree for :) the majority of my work is corporate offices. I do everything from their space planning (office layouts, where a conference room goes, how the cafe works, where the copy rooms are located, etc.) to picking out finishes (carpet, paint, ceiling tile, fabric, glass, floor tile, wood, etc.) and then put together a construction set which is similar to what people know as blue lines for a house (except I'm detailing how a glass wall meets the ceiling or how a floor transitions from carpet to tile)! I then see the project go all the way through construction and furniture being brought in to the final photo shoot. [If you would like to see another post on my job in detail please let me know… I'm afraid I'm rambling and being boring!]

And folks, that's my life!! I'm a full-time Interior Architect who also blogs full-time and studies full-time and somehow manages to instagram her #ootd every day ;) I'd say I'm an open book but if you have any questions… ask away.

Oh yea… HAPPY FREAKING FRIDAY!

Love Always,
