{social media woes}

Today's post isn't fashion or design related. It doesn't tell you where the next big sale is or how I've fallen in love with a new pair of shoes (again). It doesn't preach to you about leopard being a neutral.

Sometimes we all need to take a step back from our "perfect" social media filled lives and realize who we physically have next to us. Pick your head up from your phone, look next to you and realize who is in your corner. I have a hard time doing that; I'm always obsessing over this new trend or seeing where my favorite blogger is going next… and then the envy/wishing kicks in. We're all guilty of it! What you see on social media is only what people want you to see.

My life isn't perfect. I have days at work where I screw everything up. I have mornings where I look in the mirror and every insecurity jumps out at me. I have moments where my anxiety and fears are so crippling that I can barely breathe. I judge myself all the time… and then I put my outfits/shameless selfies up on social media fully knowing that I'm being judged by every single person (good or bad) that comes across them. It's a tad bit self deprecating and intimidating don't you think?

I say all of this because I drive myself insane thinking I'm not good enough or my life is boring. Sounds crazy, right? It is! Peel your eyes off of Instagram (heck, close the tab/phone you're reading my blog on right now!!) and look around you. How many people are on their phones? Are you standing with a friend and they're on their phone too? Turn them off and talk with each other. You will realize that you aren't the only person going through crap. You aren't the only person that messed something up at work or is currently feeling insecure about themselves. Don't judge someone by their social media handles and instantly assume they've got everything going for them. Have you talked with them and asked them how their life is going versus just commenting on that new photo they posted?

I want you to look up, have a conversation, and realize how much you've got going for yourself. Thank those supporters in your life that bring you back down to earth and remind you of all the good that's going on around you at that exact moment. Do it for all the bad selfies you took yesterday and all of the shoes you wish you had purchased. We all need to stop comparing ourselves to what we see on the internet. Facebook, twitter, snapchat (at least that's a bit more real), instagram, blogs, etc., they are simply a part of life that people want you to see.

You may be rolling your eyes because this blog is dedicated to fashion primarily and I'll probably post an #ootd later... but it's also a corner of the internet that I don't want to be turned into "ugh that girl has everything." Reality check, folks. Who does? Olivia Pope might have the most swoon-worthy wardrobe but hello, love triangle?! (It's Thursday so I had to bring up Scandal... this is my real life y'all). I started this blog to share my inspiration and love of fashion, I want to share that love with people that may stumble across here. I promise to bring you great outfit ideas, sales, and ways to style items but I also promise to bring you a real person. I promise that what you see is who I truly am… and then some. This isn't a sad, handwritten story (name that movie) but instead Southern Anchors highlights what makes me tick. I fell in love with fashion and design at a young age and I want others to fall in love all over again with me

Okay, end soap box speech… Thanks for reading :)

Love Always,

  2. This is great, I agree 100%! I wish this could have been a guest post on my blog! All of us are not high profile fashion bloggers with seemingly perfect lives, at the end of the day we are regular girls to just need to disconnect from it all.

  3. I totally agree with you, you have to remember sometimes that people only post what they want you to see. Even these high fashion bloggers have imperfections, they just hide them from us :)
