{what to wear winery hopping on a cold fall day}

Photography by Katie Urban

The key to staying warm while hopping around wineries is layers! A warm sweater with a little mock neck, a large scarf that you can drape over your shoulders and a wool coat (not pictured since I sat in the sun)! I put on a hat to keep my head warm and over-the-knee boots over jeans add an extra layer of warmth for your calves/knees. The reason I love layers is you never know what the temperature is going to be like outside of the city - the breeze could be stronger or the sun could be shining. It's funny the difference an hour drive can make! Some wineries can be so toasty warm inside that you practically want to roll your boots down off your knees haha.

All of these layers make for a classic outfit. If you stick with dark skinny jeans and a white sweater you can make your scarf stand out and focus on the details. I loved making the red in my scarf pop by wearing my mirrored blue sunglasses! Think about how different this look would be if I had a camel scarf on instead - the focus would probably be on my hat because that would be the eye catching detail. I think that's why I love white sweaters... they're the perfect backdrop for any fun accessory. With a scarf that has a price tag like this one does it's no wonder I can't help but want every color!

What is your go-to outfit for a day of fun? What do you consider to be a fall/winter staple?

{why wearing all black is anything but boring}

Sure, some people think that wearing all black is a cop out and one of those "easy, go-to looks"... it is, don't get me wrong. But, that doesn't mean it has to be basic and boring!

Black Sweater, similar, similar from Target // Black pants (my everyday go-to's) // Black Suede Booties // Gigi New York Clutch // Lisi Lerch Tassel Earrings (cheaper version) // NARS Lipstick in "Heat Wave"

To me, wearing all black is anything BUT boring. It's an excuse to really show off some details or make a statement piece pop. It's also the perfect backdrop for a bright lip or mixing neutrals (brown, navy blue, white, leopard). This look is purely winter (it's still in the 40s right now) but I've been adding in some bright silk scarves over a black tshirt and pants and breaking out some of my spring jewelry with black dresses and tights - does anybody else categorize your jewelry into seasons?

This sweater was a Target find and I've worn it so many times I lost count (now sold out but this one is similar). The ruffles make this all black look lots of fun! Big sleeves seem to be the new statement go to and I have no problem with that! I love that ruffles and statement sleeves are finding their way into spring/summer pieces. I added my gold Lisi Lerch tassel earrings and camel colored Gigi New York clutch to dress it up.

I got these booties during Black Friday and wear them at least 3-4 times a week. They're super easy to dress up and I love that they're comfortable enough to stand in all day. The heel is nice and chunky so walking distances is no problem. I sprayed them with a suede protector so they've stayed very black! I've worn them to work with tights - the back of the ankle is elastic so they make your ankles look skinny and disappear up into your legs, creating the illusion of length! You know how everyone says if you really love something you should buy it in every color? Should've gotten these booties in brown and in black leather!!

{my christmas day outfit}

Velvet Leggings // White Sweater // Plaid Scarf (on sale for $18) // Red Bow Earrings // J Necklace // Monogrammed Clutch // Black Heels, old (similar) // It Cosmetics Lipstick in "it girl"

Velvet leggings, a big sweater, and my favorite plaid holiday scarf! This is the outfit I'll be wearing on Christmas day - sans the heels ;) The basics are simple but adding a bit of velvet creates a luxe look and the accessories help this pop. I found these leggings on a whim over Thanksgiving and can't stop wearing them - they don't stretch out in the knees either! Velvet is all the rage this season and I couldn't help but jump on the trend!

Let's talk blanket scarves too... I've been a fan since college and love wearing them to add an extra something something to my outfit. It's also the easiest way to stay warm (duh) since they're so big and can be wrapped around your shoulders! I love that this plaid adds some holiday spirit too. I'm not sure why plaid feels festive but it just goes with everything!

My family always wears their pajamas while we open our stockings in the morning and then we clean up and put on some comfy, festive clothes! It gives us time to cook some food and make our signature family drink while we FaceTime/call the rest of the family :) then we all sit down and open presents together. I love that we do it this way because we really take the time to spend the entire day together. Everyone puts such thought into each present for each other so we open presents one by one (not sure how this worked when we were kids haha). My sister, her boyfriend Mark, their two dogs, and Kyle will be with us for Christmas and a couple of days after so we have lots of bonding ahead!!

This Christmas is going to be very different because of my dad's declining health - so taking the time to soak up each moment and memory is going to be even more special. I find myself holding on to each second harder. 2017 has been the best and the worst year (don't we all say that every year though?) so ending on time spent with family only seems fitting.

{winter white with leopard shoes}

Photography by Kristyn

White Sweater (I'm wearing a S) // White Pants // Leopard Mules (go 1/2 size up!) // Baublebar Earrings // Starfish Project Bracelet c/o // Leather Purse, old (similar) // Bite Lipstick in "pastille"

I'm a sucker for white pants in the summer and a white sweater in the fall so why not combine both for a fun winter look? Yep, it's still okay to wear white pants in the winter. When I took these photos the weather was warmer but this look would be stunning with a camel coat and leopard heels for a holiday party! I love how a nice coat can pull an outfit together. I also love how adding a pop of leopard to this outfit makes it more fun! My sweater is slightly pink so that my "shades of white" don't come across as dingy or yellow (similar to how mixing blacks can make one seem more blue). I also love that it's oversized so I could pull it off my shoulder a bit - typical blogger, I know.
