{guest blogger: covering the bases}

HAPPY FRIDAY PEOPLE! I’m Krista from Covering the Bases and I’ll be taking over for Jennifer today (thanks for having me). Covering the Bases is a fashion and travel blog based in NYC and I hope you’re able to stop by and check it out when you can! You’ll see various outfits (mostly blue ones) like this here, fun travel content (every Tuesday) and a LOT of weird commentary from yours truly.
 To speak about the outfit real quick, I recently got this dress in and I just love it. I was a little nervous about the cutout but I found that it wasn't anywhere near revealing. I've also figured out this fit and flare work for me so that's cool. You want to know what else is cool? The material of this dress. I don't know what it is, but it's awesome!

Photos by Nicole

If you follow me on Instagram then you've probably seen the countless photos of flowers and cherry blossoms I've been posting lately. How can I not post so many though?! Washington, D.C. is known for being one of (in my opinion no other city even compares) the most gorgeous cities in the country during spring time. I guess it's the vast amounts of cherry blossoms throughout the city. Downtown, on Capitol Hill, and most famously, the Tidal Basin. You can find these beautiful blooms everywhere.

Two weekends ago they were in peak bloom. Meaning the cherry blossoms were at their fullest and most gorgeous, and the point right before the white/pinkish tint of the bloom disappears. Peak bloom typically lasts two-three days. So there's always a mad rush to get down to the tidal basin to see them. Even though us locals have to battle the hoards of tourists, it's worth it.

I get asked all the time what my "go-to" outfit for touring the city during the spring is. For me it's about being comfortable, warm (as the winds can be pretty cool), but still adding a pop of color to my outfit. My favorite outfit is a good denim jean, chambray button-up, a bright cardi and most importantly, good walking shoes. I tend to save the tennis shoes for the gym, the ballet flats for the office and under ZERO circumstances, do I ever wear heels or wedges to sightsee. It's just not worth it. Choose a comfortable sandal. I love these sparkly sandals from Target. Bonus, they're a much cheaper option of last season's J.Crew stunners that everyone seemed to have.

Do you have a go-to outfit for sightseeing in any city? Let me know!

{guest blogger: life with emily}

Hi Southern Anchors readers! Emily here from Life With Emily, a NC based life and style blog! I am so excited to be guest blogging for my blog (soon to be IRL!) friend Jennifer today. I am all about sharing on-trend, affordable items with my readers on my blog, so today I wanted to share some of my spring & summer essentials with you Southern Anchors readers! The best part is everything is under $100. Who doesn't love that?!

In the warmer months I always love carrying clutches. Lets face it, when it's hot outside the last thing I want to carry around is a heavy bag! This clutch is less than $40 and adds a fun print to any outfit.

Sunglasses are essential...always! As much as I love my Ray-Ban aviators, it's always nice to have a cheaper pair in case anything happens to them!

+ A bright lipstick can add so much to an overall look. I am currently loving MAC's Show Orchid, it's such a bright pink!

+ Statement necklaces (like this one) are the perfect way to add a little more glam to any outfit.

+ Did anyone ever think they would be wearing jelly sandals again? I thought those got left behind in the 90's, but apparently they are back! These jelly sandals are chic and don't remind me of my jellies from 1994!

+ Espadrilles are a warm weather classic. Soludos makes some of my favorites, like these striped lace up espadrilles.

+ Hi-waisted swimsuits have become my new favorite... I have added quite a few this season already. I love the bright cobalt blue (and the price tag!)

+ A little white dress (LWD) in the summer is the equivalent of a black dress! If I can't find anything else to wear I will throw on a little white dress without fail.

Thanks so much for reading! You can follow along with me on my blog, instagram, twitter, pinterest & even snapchat (username: enh410)

Happy Monday y'all! Anna here, from the life + style blog Live More Beautifully! So excited to be guest blogging for my sweet friend Jennifer today. It's that time of year again where maxi dresses become just as popular as lululemon yoga pants! While a few years ago you may have associated wearing long dresses for formal and dressy occasions, now a days it has been 100% acceptable and highly encouraged during spring and summer months. A long maxi dress can be elegant, classy and chic all at the same time!

CAUTION though! You don't want to look frumpy. So its important to pick the right style for your body type and height. Pair it with the right accessories and you can go from sleek and classy to trendy and chic! Dressed down with simple jewels and sandals, like I have with this Shop Whimsy Maxi, gives off a casual summer look and is the perfect way to stay cool and comfortable at the beach or on vacation. Make a simple tweak to a maxi by adding heels and a blazer/ light weight cardigan making it appropriate for the office.

Below I have rounded up some of my favorite maxis for you to shop. Enjoy and feel free to stop by and say hello sometime!
